This is what will allow you to run container images. Repeat with the script that contains your other database objects, if necessary. Go out to, download, and install the Docker Desktop application.Run the generated scripts to create all the tables and populate them with data.Change to the database we just created (change devdb to match your database name). The generated scripts expect a database with that same name to exist. Note: Change devdb to match the name of the database you scripted. Now, connect to your SQL Server running in Docker using sql-cli, and make sure you are on master.Open a Terminal, and change to the folder where you placed the scripts.

The first time you click Open Kitematic, it will prompt you to download and install it. Kitematic is a nice desktop application for managing Docker containers.

There is also an IDE from JetBrains called DataGrip and I'm sure others I don't know about. One of them will just connect to the database, the second will perform basic Insert, Update, Delete, and Select, and the third one will make use of Sequelize, one of the most popular Node.js Object-relational mappers, to execute the same operations. You can also, of course, RDP to other machines, use SSMS equivalent clients to connect to another SQL Server running on Windows elsewhere, or install a different platform on the Mac ( such as PostgreSQL). (I haven't tested the latter recently, but last time I tried, it was a disaster - gets great reviews as a VM host on Windows, but not very stable on the Mac.)

Otherwise you will need to install virtualization software of some sort, where you install Windows in a VM, and install SQL Server there - I use Parallels Desktop, but there is also VMWare Fusion and Oracle VirtualBox. No, SQL Server will not run on macOS (it can run on Apple hardware, if you use Boot Camp and boot natively to Windows).
